A Sparkling Jewel of a Video
Children often claim to have seen fairies – those tiny, illusive, illuminating, butterfly-like creatures hovering among forest plants and flowers. Some may say non-sense, yet the Town of Falmouth, Maine has permanently dedicated parkland as an official Fairy House Village where fairies can hang out. Children who visit build their own Fairy Houses for the fairies to inhabit. In this award-winning movie filmed on a little island off the coast of Maine, Aunt Tracy brings along her niece Kristen for a weeklong vacation in search of these tiny habitats, and perhaps to build one of their own. This film is all about childhood innocence, imagination, playfulness and nature’s abundance. While Kristen gathers twigs, leaves, bark, old feathers and an abandoned bird nest, she finds the perfect site to build the fairies a place to dwell in. Meanwhile, Aunt Tracy who is an artist, sketches the happy event (which results in her award winning book Fairy Houses). Filled with sheer wonder and beauty, you too will become a believer. For non-believers who think this just a fairy tale, we suggest you consider building a house for those nighttime creatures we love to see during summer – fireflies! DVD, 40 minutes. Ages 4 to 8, but adults will be inspired, too. If you want to find out how to hold a Fairy Houses Building Event in your location, click onto www.fairyhouses.com
